What Is a Body Butter Soufflé?

THE ART OF TEXTURE

What is a body butter soufflé?

A blend of butters and oils, whipped until light and airy. The whipping changes the texture, not the richness.

HOW IT’S MADE

Whipped, not thinned

Body Butter Soufflé: rich moisture, softer-feeling skin

Solid butters like shea, kokum and mango are blended with liquid oils, then whipped to fold air through the mixture, much like a dessert soufflé. The air makes the butter easier to scoop and spread, so it melts in with less effort and without a heavy or greasy finish. There is no water in a soufflé, so every scoop is butter and oil. We make ours with no pre-made bases.

Butters

Shea, kokum and mango butters soften and condition. They are solid at room temperature and melt at skin temperature.

Oils

Coconut, grapeseed and sweet almond oils keep the blend smooth and help it glide.

Air

Whipping folds in air for a light, cloud-like feel. No fillers are needed.

SOUFFLÉ, LOTION OR OIL?

How they compare

Contains water? Richness Best for When
Body Butter Soufflé No Richest Elbows, knees, heels, dry skin After bathing, before bed
Body Lotion Yes Light All-over daily moisture Morning, or anytime
Body Oil No Light to medium Holding moisture in, a soft sheen On damp skin after the shower

HOW TO USE

A little goes a long way

1

Start with damp skin

WITHIN A FEW MINUTES OF BATHING

Pat skin until just damp. Butters hold in the water already on your skin.

2

Warm a small scoop

A FINGERTIP AMOUNT PER AREA

Rub it between your palms for a few seconds so it melts and spreads evenly.

3

Massage in

GIVE IT A MINUTE

Smooth over skin until absorbed, with extra attention on elbows, knees and heels.

QUESTIONS

Frequently asked

Will it feel greasy?

Whipping helps it absorb without a heavy finish. If it feels slick, you used more than you need; start with less.

Why did my soufflé change texture?

Natural butters soften in heat and firm up in cold. If it melts in a hot car or mailbox, it may set denser. It still works the same. Store it in a cool, dry place.

Can I use it on my face?

Our soufflés are made for the body. Facial skin is usually happier with lighter textures.

Is it for men too?

Yes. Skin is skin. Soufflés are a favorite for dry hands, elbows and after shaving the body.

Soufflé or lotion in summer?

Many people switch to lotion or oil when it’s hot and humid, and come back to soufflé in cooler months.
